Wireless projectors are the latest wireless devices to hit the market. Everything is going wireless these days, so why not projectors?

It makes total sense to rid you of those pesky cables which are not only ugly, but can also be dangerous, particularly in crowded rooms which is where so many projector presentations are held.

Most of the big manufacturers now offer wireless projector models, including Epson, Panasonic and Mitsubishi. Wireless projectors use the standard wireless technologies of 802.11b and 802.11g protocols. The reason for these protocols is so computers with wireless cards can connect to them.

Wireless projectors allow you to toggle between multiple computer sources very easily. This means if you have multiple people in a room presenting from different laptops, it is very easy to switch the focus between these laptops.

Another great advantage of wireless projectors is that they allow the presenter to be anywhere in the room. You are no longer tied to your projector!

Real time wireless projectors maintain a constant link to its source. This is done over a wireless link and the projector can then display the source image in real time.

Another time of wireless projector is the upload projector. This one consists of the files being uploaded to the projector via the wireless connection. These files can then be displayed by the projector at a later time without the need for a computer. This is an excellent option if you need to do some preparation and know you will be in a location without computer access.

For general use, a real time wireless projector is ideal. Upload projectors are a specialist item and only really used in particular scenarios or if you are going to be showing the same presentation over and over again. This saves you doing it in real time each time.

Real time wireless projectors can exhibit some delay between the projector and the source. This is because of the processing time over the wireless link. It is not very noticeable in most cases however can become noticeable in animation presentations.

For this reason, wireless projectors are not ideal in showing motion video in real time. The wireless bandwidth does not allow data to flow fast enough to result in a smooth video motion. Wired projectors are ideal for video presentations and movies.

Wireless projectors are an excellent choice for the office and corporate environment. Once wireless bandwidth becomes faster however, wireless projectors will take over from their wired counterparts in the motion picture projector market.
