Spare lithium batteries can be carried with you on baggage. These spare lithium batteries should be packed safely and separately. Though, you are allowed to travel carrying your devices in the carry on baggage, you must ensure that the batteries installed device and the one that you are carrying as spare should be separate. However, it is also important that to know about the quantity limits to be carried as spare for devices. This is essential as the limits are a restriction on the quantity to be carried. For instance, 8 grams of lithium are equivalent to nearly 100 watt hours and 25 grams to 300 watt hours.
You are allowed to carry spare lithium batteries up to 8 grams lithium content as per the new rule. All the cell phones that have lithium ion batteries are below 8 gram lithium content and the laptop computers are also below this threshold. This new rule allows you carry two spare batteries on aggregate equivalent lithium content up to 25 grams. Almost all the lithium metal batteries of the consumer type are below 2 grams. However, before traveling it is best to check the limitations as well as the capacity of batteries that you need for travel. These regulations were done in response to fire hazards with respect to lithium batteries.
