Lithium batteries have marked a significance of their presence in the field of battery technology. The lithium batteries are smaller, lighter and at the same time very powerful. The ratio has increased tremendously in comparison to their predecessors. This technology of lithium batteries is leading in various devices and is currently adding great fame. Nevertheless, you will see lithium batteries in every aspect of life. Though, the excellence of performance is apparent, proper handling is essential to ensure that they last for a longer period of time and also remain powerful. This makes comprehending the acronyms essential.
Lithium batteries play a vital role in all the mobile phones. Today, everything for that matter revolves around mobile phones. Many times it is noted that in a fit of hurry, you tend to forget taking spare things and are in a trouble when you actually need it and sometimes you are prohibited from taking batteries in the flights due to security reasons. The government has recently lifted the regulation and has allowed taking spare lithium batteries in the U.S. flights. Spare batteries are the batteries that you can carry apart from the devices they already power. The batteries that are installed in the device are not considered as spare batteries. However, you cannot pack spare lithium batteries in the baggage that is already checked.
Spare lithium batteries can be carried with you on baggage. These spare lithium batteries should be packed safely and separately. Though, you are allowed to travel carrying your devices in the carry on baggage, you must ensure that the batteries installed device and the one that you are carrying as spare should be separate. However, it is also important that to know about the quantity limits to be carried as spare for devices. This is essential as the limits are a restriction on the quantity to be carried. For instance, 8 grams of lithium are equivalent to nearly 100 watt hours and 25 grams to 300 watt hours.
You are allowed to carry spare lithium batteries up to 8 grams lithium content as per the new rule. All the cell phones that have lithium ion batteries are below 8 gram lithium content and the laptop computers are also below this threshold. This new rule allows you carry two spare batteries on aggregate equivalent lithium content up to 25 grams. Almost all the lithium metal batteries of the consumer type are below 2 grams. However, before traveling it is best to check the limitations as well as the capacity of batteries that you need for travel. These regulations were done in response to fire hazards with respect to lithium batteries.
