The audio data on DVD player can be in the form of PCM, DTS, MPEG-1 audio layer-2 or can be in form of dolby digital (AC-1) format. In countries using PAL system standard DVD video, must contain atleast one audio track using AC-3, MP-2 and PCM formats. DTS system is optional for all systems, since it is not a part of standard, so many early players unable to play DTS audio tracks. The majorority of DVD video players can play AC-3 audio. There are some offencial formats for the audio are as follows
PCM player- which runs on 48 kHz or 96 kHz sampling rate, and based on 16 bit or 24 bit also have L-PCM, 2 to 6 channels,and run on 6144 kilobits per second, AC-3 audio- which runs on 48 kHz sampling rate and have six channels and run at the speed of 448 kilobits per second, DTS- which runs on 48 khz and have 2 to 6.1 channels. it comes in various versions like its half version run at the speed of 768 kilobites per second and its full version runs at the speed of 1536 kilobits per second
