Portable DVD Players
The sole purpose of the development of the portable DVD players is to aid the ability of watching video DVDs while traveling or when away from home. They are also embedded with the softwares so that it performs some additional tasks live playing music CDs, etc.
Sony was the first company to launch a PDP in the market. It was launched in2001.
Design:
The basic design of a PDP is as follows. The PDP is like a small, compact briefcase. An LCD screen is attached to them which have a basic size of 7 inches. Some PDPs have screen as large as 10 – 12 inches. Some PDPs have folding screen just like laptops, while the screen of others is directly embedded in the base. Some of the folding screens can be rotated 3600.
Today almost all the PDPs have built in USB slots and data card reader slots. Some PDPs also have iPod docks.
Screen Quality:
It is possible for portable DVD players to have screens with high resolution. But till date no company has succeeded in developing a screen that is compatible for the portable DVD player. Hence no companies offer high resolution screens in their models. The resolution offered by the best models in market is 800 x 480.
One more of the reason could be that making a high resolution screen could result in the sharp rising of the prices of the PDPs.
The costs of the PDPs vary on the basis of the screen. The cost varies anywhere between 30$ – 400$ USD in international market.
