The lithium ion batteries weigh lesser and support more energy than other batteries of identical size. As these batteries are based on ions they are charged atomic particles. If they are stored at greater temperatures, these batteries will lose 20 % of its capacity. However, even when they are stored at lower temperatures, they lose nearly 5%, which is lesser than other batteries. Excess heat will ruin the batteries. Manufacturers suggest 59 degrees Fahrenheit as ideal storage temperature, but storing the batteries in the refrigerator before using them keeps the batteries safe. Another drawback of lithium ion batteries is even under proper storage conditions they begin to deteriorate the moment they leave the factory premises.
The lithium ion batteries last longer when used, and storing them over 40% charge is not a must. Storing them at a charge too low also will lead to death or turn to be hazardous when recharged. The ideal way of handling lithium ion batteries is by constantly using them. Lithium ion batteries are used for various handheld devices such as ipods to mobile electronics. They are preferred owing to certain excellent features such as light weight, dense energy and it has chemistry composite facilitating the battery to recharge quickly. As lithium is highly electrochemical potential it is widely used as battery anode material in storage batteries. As they are lighter in weight, the per-use cost is less and has stable voltage profiles. Subsequently, they are less harmful when disposed.
