Digital camera technology is related to the same technology that recorded television images. In 1951 the first live images were recorded from television on a video tape recorder by converting the information to electrical impulses and saving it on magnetic tape. A research team funded by Bing Crosby (yes, the famous singer) created the first VTR (video tape recorder). The technology was perfected by 1956 and in use by television. Both television and digital cameras use Charged Coupled Device to sense light color and intensity. In the 1960′s NASA started using digital imaging. In 1972 the first film less camera was released. In 1981 the first electronic camera was released to the public.

In 1888 George Eastman, from the Eastman Kodak Company, put the first simple camera in the public hand. The word Kodak was, at the time, just a word made up by George Eastman himself. Kodak was incorporated into the name of the company because of its notoriety and being associated with the Eastman products. The Kodak cameras were created in mind of bringing accessible products to everyone. Mr. Eastman would not be content until he could produce a camera that was efficient, operate simply and sell for $1. This goal was reached in 1900 when the production of the popular BROWNIE cameras came about. Since then he has made a complicated process easy and accessible to the average Joe.

Kodak has invented various professional and home use image sensors. The Kodak Company has brought about many new products and processes to simplify photography. Their slogan is ‘you press the button, we do the rest’. In 1986 they invented the very first megapixel sensor. It could record 1.4 million pixels, producing a 5×7 print. In 1987 they released seven new digital products. In 1990 the first world wide standard for digital use was set by Kodak. In 1991 they released their first professional digital camera system. It was the Nikon F-3 equipped with a 1.3 megapixel sensor by Kodak. One of the first consumer cameras was the Kodak DC40, released in 1995. Just as Eastman’s goal was to make picture taking as convenient as the pencil, Kodak is still expanding the way images touch our daily lives. Microsoft and Kinko’s joined Kodak to promote this camera and its software. Soon after Hewlett Packard made the first color inkjet printer that enhanced the digital images.

Today Kodak has operations in North and South America, Europe and Asia. Kodak products are available in almost every country around the globe. Picture taking has come a long way since the first camera was made. One of the first cameras was as big as a microwave. These days you can get a compact camera small enough to fit in a pocket.

One of the best of Kodak cameras is the Kodak Easy Share Z712 IS. It is black in color. The average user and CNET editor’s rating are very good. With a 7.8 and a 7.2 consecutively. It has a 12x optical zoom, manual exposure controls and of course optical image stabilization. This camera is a nice super zoom model. It also has a 7.1 megapixel.
