The written word first developed thousands of years ago. Since then, cultures have adopted writing as a primary avenue of communication, and reading the written word is now a fundamental requirement of business and a source of great pleasure for readers. In recent years, a new means of recording and relaying text was introduced to our high-tech loving society – the ebook. And what’s an ebook without an ebook reader such as Amazon’s Kindle?

The Amazon Kindle is an ebook reader that is easily transported and can download books, newspapers, magazines and blogs wirelessly. Whether in bright sunlight or lamp light, the reader’s display is barely different from real paper. An ebook, short for electronic book, is the high tech equivalent of a conventional printed book. Ebooks can be accessed via a personal computer or Amazon Kindle.

There are numerous advantages to ebooks over conventional books. The ebook is read via an e-reader, and text within the ebooks can be searched. The device doesn’t need to be held when read. Additionally, your library of books takes up way less space when the books are ebooks. Readers with less-than-perfect eyesight are able to adjust font sizes, and audio books can easily be converted from ebooks using text-to-speech software. Lastly for those who worry about depleting the rainforest, the production of Ebooks eliminates the need to consume the natural resources used to print books.

There are a few disadvantages as well. Most obvious, you have to purchase an ebook reader to enjoy the Ebooks. As with any electronic gizmos, failures are bound to occur rendering your reader temporarily useless. Plus, electricity is a must. Of course, both of those issues can be avoided with a good old-fashion paper-print book. Additionally, e-readers are quite a bit more fragile than those paper back books. You know the ones in the bottom of your trunk or the ones that have been dropped numerous times?

The demand for Ebooks is huge since the debut in 2007. There have been more than 200,000 sold since that time. Once you purchase your Kindle, you may wish to visit the Amazon Kindle Store. There are more than 160,000 books in 24 book categories including fiction, non-fiction, children, history, romance and science fiction. Top newspapers are also available.

The most convenient aspect of ebooks is their availability – anytime, anywhere. On the train going to work, in a doctor’s office waiting room, in you jammies sitting in bed – you can download a new ebook with just a click of a button. Downloading books wirelessly to the Kindle is simple – just buy and download, right from your Kindle, and read. The ebook will arrive in less than a minute. While bestsellers in hardcover and the latest released books are currently priced at $10, readers are often able to purchase older books and paperbacks for less.
