GPS is an acronym that stands for Global Positioning System. It is a precise positioning tool that helps with navigation to your upcoming destination. The GPS can show the exact position of where you are on earth in any kind of weather- even the worst thunder storm, at any given time. Kind of like a really smart map without the paper. It is the only fully functional directional system currently in service.

It has a network of more than 24 orbiting satellites around the earth. Each satellite transmits radio signals which can be received by the GPS receivers to make the program do its job. The receiver needs help from three or more satellites to give effective directions. The receiver can measure time delays and reception of the GPS radio signal. This transmission is called trilateration.
Even weather forecasters can use the GPS to determine the global climate and of course to give us our daily and or weekly forecast. It can also help the television networks by precise synchronization. Scientists use the system for time reference for earthquake studies.
