The GPS navigator Smartphone edition 3 ships with an updated version on the TomTom navigator 6 software, works with the Palm Treo 650, Treo 700W, and Treo 700P. Comes with a 1 gigabyte sd card, preloaded atlas, points of interest for the U.S. and Canada, a Bluetooth receiver, a suction or adhesive windshield mount, a power adapter, and the receiver. It also has a card reader and extra maps.

The Bluetooth receiver is what turns your Palm Treo into a GPS Navigation device. It is very sensitive, and achieves satellite signal quickly. Setup is pretty easy, as all you have to do is put the Navigator 6 secure digital card in a slot on you device, and activate the program. You can use auto or manual on your GPS navigator Smartphone Edition 3. You use your computer to activate it, by following what it tells you to do.

At the beginning of the launch, you will see a 3D navigation screen, if you touch the screen, it will bring up the main menu. You can then get to Navigation menu and TomTom traffic, to help you avoid congestion and time delays. You can also find different routes, and it suggests alternatives for you.

You can decide which fields will be shown on the status bar, and you can choose large or small onscreen keys. There are 6 data fields: remaining time, current time, remaining distance, arrival time, speed and name of street. If you decide to go to a street address, you first enter a city, then a street name and an address. Once a trip has been figured out, you are given a 2D route summary view. With views, you can browse turns or just a map of the route. You can even watch a demo of the map route, which you can speed up.

A drawback to the GPS navigator Smartphone edition 3 is that after choosing a point of interest, it calculates the route, and doesn’t give you another screen with address and phone number. Also, you cannot dial a number from inside the navigator display. You can only run one application at a time, so you have to exit navigation in order to use the device for other things. In addition, when you answer a call coming in on the GPS Navigator Smartphone edition 3, all navigation terminates while you are on the phone.

Although not feasible for the person who talks on the phone and wants to navigate at the same time, it is good for someone who wants a GPS added to their PDA and uses it on an occasional basis.
