This GPS navigator maps format was created by Philips and became very well known and most widely used soon. This format uses ISO level 1 encoding and CD-ROM based maps. Besides, map media is easily recognizable if the CD contains the following file format: BIBILIOGR, ABSTRACT, CARINDB, CARINET and COPYRIGH.
Furthermore, newer versions of the GPS navigator maps are using DVD-ROM based maps and flash memory just to increase the capacity and for an add-on support to the longer file names. Besides, you need to update your map data once in a while and for this numerous websites are at your disposal. But make sure that the data that you are getting is an updated one.
No doubt, the features that a GPS navigator map is providing to its customers are out of the ordinary. But, this is an electronic system and could crash at any time. Hence, always have a back-up with you in the form of paper maps.
