If you are considering purchasing a new flat screen television there are five major things that you should consider first. The five things that you should consider are cost, resolution, size, inputs, and picture quality.
Cost being the first and perhaps the most important consideration. This is important because before considering anything else you need to decide on an amount that you can afford to pay for your flat screen TV. Flat screen TVs can cost anything from a few hundred dollars for a smaller version, for use in a bedroom or kitchen, to several thousand for you main television.
The next thing that you need to consider is the resolution. Keep in mind that a HDTV will be at the very least 720p or 1080i; this is how many lines of resolution you can view on the screen. Most LCD flat screens come with 1080p which shows the lines progressively giving a crisp clearer picture. This will also allow you to enjoy new Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies at their best.
The size of your new flat screen will also be important. You need to know what you plan to do with the TV before shopping. For example if you plan to use it for you main television you will usually be looking for one that ranges from 46″ to 52″, however, if it is for a bedroom or such you will be shopping for something much smaller.
When considering video inputs for your LCD make sure that you consider what you will need in the future as well as present. Currently HDMI is the standard for HDV and for lossless high definition audio as well.
Make sure that you seriously research your picture quality because lets face it if your LCD flat screen television can not display a high quality picture then it’s not worth buying. Also consider the refresh rate as some newer flat screens offer twice the normal refresh rate. This makes for a smooth transition for programs such as sporting events.

They can be a great choice for those who plan to use them in brightly lit areas or even for those who plan to hook their computer up to them.
