Audio is stored on the DVDs by using Linear pulse code modulation method. The Linear pulse code mechanism encodes audio information digitally. It is a part of the DVD format. The LPCM method may be either uncompressed or losslessly compressed.
The DVD format must be compatible with DVD videos to provide superb quality. DVD audio contains Dolby digital channel on the disc. Dolby digital is referred to the lossy compression technologies that will be used in DVD format. The technology is developed in the Dolby laboratory and hence the name.

Surround sound refers to the application of multi channel audio to channels surrounding the audience. The surround sound generally include left sound, right sound and back sound. It may also contain the combination of three sounds. Surround sound system is used in cinemas for sound system, home entertainments like home theatres and computer games. But this is much costlier so that only big producers can use this in cinemas. The surround system is available either built in or can be used as add on.
The DVD hardware supports Bass management that ensures low frequency flexibility. It is compatible with non region coded discs also. That means now you can enjoy any songs, music albums etc irrespective of the region. You not even need to change the region code.
The play back formats include stereo and multi channel in the player and it has progressive scanning capability.
Book shelf speakers are most suitable to be use with satellite and surround sound speakers. It is durable and the audio quality is excellent. You can fix them in wall or ceiling along with your home theatre system. It is light weight and normally below 1 pound. So it is comfortable.
