You have now decided to purchase a new flat screen tv. Your next step is to figure out the best deal for your money. It is common knowledge that no consumer wants to overpay for their purchase, so it is important that you know what you want and make sure to comparison shop.
Let’s start with the basics. If you were shopping for a computer and you needed it only for basic internet use, you would not purchase a top of the line gaming system, right? Then why do it with a television? There are many selections when it comes to the purchase of a new flat screen that fall in many different price ranges. Assess your needs first. If your entertainment center will fit up to a 32 inch, unless you plan on changing your furniture arrangement, you will have little use for a 52 inch.
Make sure to notice what comes with the television you have selected as well as the features it offers. If special cables and add on equipment is necessary, be sure to research the possible additional cost involved.
Select a known brand. When shopping for any high dollar item, make sure the manufacturer is known. If the company has the lowest price, but you have never heard of them, it is possible the deal will not seem as attractive once you get the television home. A known brand name will pride themselves on quality. Although the price may seem a bit higher, it is likely you will be more satisfied with the result a few months down the road.
Look for sales and discontinued flat screen televisions. When a store runs a sale on a particular television, it usually means they are trying to clear out their inventory. If the store is one that pays on a commission basis, you may be able to get an even better deal. A discontinued television does not mean that the product is not up to standard. Companies change their product lines continually to make sure they are on the cutting edge and trying to outdo their competition. Take advantage of these changes. If you don’t, there will be someone else in line to snatch the bargain.
Beware of extended warranties. Like car insurance, make sure the warranty is worth the extra money. There is generally a manufacturer’s warranty included with your purchase. Read the offer carefully to make sure you actually require the additional coverage. Too often people get caught up in the excitement of purchasing a new television and forget they came into the store with a firm budget.
